Focus Our Prayer
Fifty-five years ago, a wealthy Brazilian rancher named Renato Amaral donated a beautiful ranch in Campinas, Brazil, to be used as an orphanage. In 1991, a few years after closing due to funding problems, the orphanage was turned over to the fledging ministry Hope Unlimited, and was named the “City of Youth.” Senior Renato passed away a few weeks ago at the age of 99! He was energetic and enthusiastic even at that age. During the last few years of his life, all he talked about was the City of Youth. Donating this property was the hallmark and highlight of his life!
The legacy and example set by Senior Renato reminds us that Hope Unlimited is primarily an indigenous Brazilian ministry - run by Brazilians and for Brazilians. Besides Philip and Corenne, all of our 120 staff are local folks that are committed to the kids in their own communities. We have a separate Brazilian organization with its own board, and staff that are striving to increase the level of local financial and volunteer support.
Praise
The commitment of our Staff - particularly the house-parents who make an amazing 10 year commitment to their jobs
The wonderful Brazilian Board that sets a great example of community involvement and philanthropy
Support from government officials at the State and local levels
Support from corporations, schools and other community groups - especially for the tons of food, clothing and other items that are donated annually from the local communities near Campinas and Vitoria
Prayer Requests
The Amaral family as they grieve the loss of Renato. May his legacy of generosity extend for generations!
Hope\'s Brazilian Board of Directors - that they will have wisdom in managing the complexities of operating a non-profit organization in that heavily bureaucratic environment
For Clovis Selegattor and others involved in development - that doors will open for more Brazilian corporate sponsors - and for his important role in managing government relations
For the individual Brazilian donors - that they will be encouraged to give more and encourage others to give - in a culture that does not promote philanthropy
For the entire country of Brazil - that more and more people will want to take ownership over the street children problem - and become a part of the indigenous solution
